Rules that apply here
- Safety data sheets (OHSA s.38(1.1))
Staff who may be exposed must have the SDS readily available. Section 2 lists hazards such as skin or respiratory sensitiser classes; Section 9 gives the flash point.
- Designated substances (OHSA s.30)
Before the project starts, the owner lists designated substances, such as asbestos in old tile or mastic, and gives the list to contractors before a binding contract.
Ask before you sign
- The SDS for every product, before the start date
- How the contractor will check the finish against the cleaning agents and chemicals your staff use, from the product data sheet
- Whether the work can be phased around exam rooms or benches
- The data-sheet times before staff and equipment return
